Cove Plate

Cove Plate Waterproofing System | Floor-Wall Joint Sealing

One of the most common and overlooked water entry points in a basement is the cove joint, the seam where the floor meets the wall. As soil settles and hydrostatic pressure builds, water naturally seeks the path of least resistance, and the cove joint is often it. A cove plate system is a targeted, low-profile waterproofing solution designed specifically to capture water at this joint and route it to a drainage system before it can spread across your basement floor. Keystone Foundation Repair installs cove plate systems as a standalone fix or as part of a complete interior waterproofing solution.

How a Cove Plate System Works to Stop Basement Flooding

A cove plate, also called a floor-wall drainage channel or cove drain, is a low-profile plastic or composite channel installed directly over the cove joint. Water that seeps through the joint is captured immediately and directed into a connected drainage pipe, typically an interior perimeter drain system, which routes it to a sump pump for discharge.

Installation requires minimal disruption: a small portion of concrete along the perimeter is removed to accommodate the drainage pipe, the cove plate is installed and sealed, and the concrete is restored. The system operates passively, no electricity, no maintenance, no moving parts, and effectively eliminates the most common water entry path in the vast majority of wet basements.

Is a Cove Plate System Right for Your Basement?

Cove plate drainage is an excellent solution when:

  • Water is entering primarily at the floor/wall joint, not through the wall itself
  • The basement experiences seepage during heavy rain or seasonal thaw
  • A full interior perimeter drain system is desired and the cove plate serves as the water inlet
  • The homeowner wants a minimally invasive solution without major concrete demolition

If water is entering from multiple locations, through wall cracks, windows, or floor cracks, Keystone Foundation Repair may recommend a more comprehensive interior drainage system alongside the cove plate. Our inspectors always start with a complete assessment so you understand exactly what’s happening and why before any work begins.
